To decrease video upload time, re-encode videos with FFmpeg, trying lower quality settings until no longer acceptable. Here a 20 GB file was compressed to 500 MB with minimal loss of quality. To give the best information possible to FFmpeg, first export from your video rendering software at high quality. I use Sony Vegas 13 and suspect the large improvement of compression is because FFmpeg has continued to develop while Sony Vegas 13 is a couple years old. The source video was originally a webm file from VirtualBox's screen recording system, converted using FFmpeg.
