Download the True Necrosis Mod: forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=17008.0
This is a playthrough of the only very recently released True Necrosis Mod (v0.2) for the PC version of Final Fantasy VII. Like the NewThreat Mod that I have played through on several occasions before, the True Necrosis Mod was created by SegaChief.
The premise of the True Necrosis Mod is that you cannot heal throughout the entire game. Items, Magic, Limit Breaks, Inns, or whatever else you have in mind, it will not restore any character’s HP or MP or revive the dead.
To offset the characters’ comparatively low starting HP and MP though, each character will join you with 9,999HP and 999MP (minus some HP penalties due to equipped Materia (e.g. Cloud starts with 9,600 HP)). So, in essence, this mod is challenging you to beat the game with only 10K HP and 1K MP on each character.
Additionally, all sources have been made unusable, making it impossible to max stats. Also, due to how Limit Breaks work, since you need to take damage equivalent to a certain fraction of your maximum HP to fill your Limit Break bar, it is basically impossible to use Limit Breaks more than once or twice per character throughout the game and entirely impossible to learn Level 4 or 1-2, 2-2 or 3-2 Limit Breaks.
In this playthrough, I will find out if it is even possible to finish the game under the effects of the mod as it came out just a few days ago, no one else seems to have tried it yet and SegaChief does not believe in testing his own creations. Personally, I am quite confident that beating the game will be possible in the True Necrosis Mod. What I am unsure about, however, is how much of the optional battles, Ruby and Emerald Weapon to be precise, will be feasible.
Regardless, I am going to try to defeat everything there is to defeat. I hope you will enjoy this mod as much as I am.

I stream all kinds of FF7, FF8 and FF9 speedruns, among them 100%.

![Final Fantasy VIII : 100% Speedrun in 11:13:36 (WR)
World record for the 100% RTA (Real Time Attack) category, played on the French Steam PC Version, using real time.
You can check out a leaderboard for this speedrun at http://www.speedrun.com/ff8#100_PC1.
This is 9-minute improvement to the former WR time of 11:23:10 by W1ndows91 and a 10-minute improvement to my former PB of 11:24:01(https://secure.twitch.tv/xerokynos/v/...).
This run, unlike most of my recent FF8 100% attempts, had quite astonishing item luck. However, the card Luck was overall subpar. Even though I was able to save half a minute on the Zell Card segment, this was only possible because my previous run had similarly horrible luck on the Quistis and Zell Card. Additionally, I lost about 6 minutes to collecting cards in the Disc4 Ragnarok. So, although this run is quite a huge improvement to my old run and constitutes the current WR again as of now, it could have become a much better run had it not been for petty card disasters.
Therefore, I believe this run can be improved further by a bit. A time below 11:10 seems both realistic and feasible with just better general luck. I actually do not intend to stop running this category before I make more outstanding improvements with this run.
As FF8 does not have a proper game completion counter, one will have to define on ones own what is to be understood by 100%. Obviously, determining what to include in 100% can be controversial and seem arbitrary. Regardless, I feel that the prerequisites I have come up with for the 100% category allow for an interesting speedrun and are as close as possible to what is intuitively understood by 100%.
Here is what my definition of 100% is:
1] Defeat all bosses
2] Get all GFs
2.1) Get all 16 junctionable GFs
2.2) Get Odin and Gilgamesh
2.3) Get Phoenix (use a Phoenix Pinion in a battle)
2.4) Get Boko and MiniMog from Chocobo World
3] Finish all sidequests:
3.1) Winhill: Get a Holy Stone by collecting all vase shards
3.2) Shumi Village: Get a Phoenix Pinion and a Status Guard
3.3) Chocobo Forests: Find treasure in all 6 Chocobo Forests, then go to the Chocobo Sanctuary to watch the Chocobo Dance and get the Chicobo Card and Gysahl Greens
3.4) CC Quest: Defeat all Members of the Card Club in Balamb Garden before Disc4
3.4) Obel Lake: Find a Three Stars and a Luck-J Scroll
3.5) Ultimecias Castle: Activate the 4th Gate outside the Castle, get the Rosetta Stone and open up all closed doors
4] Have all characters learn all of their Limit Breaks
5] Have all characters have their ultimate weapon
6] Have 1 of each item
7] Own all cards
8] Have all 16 junctionable GFs learn all of their pre-set abilities, do not make them forget abilities that cannot be taught again
9] All tutorial entries are known
10] Read 12 Timber Maniacs
Remarks on my reasoning for these goals:
My general idea behind this 100% definition is to prevent missing anything permanently.
This why I specifically include getting Gilgamesh in the GF subgoal. Even though Gilgamesh is arguably by far a less useful and more annoying GF to have than Odin, Gilgamesh can be missed permanently if one does not recruit Odin before fighting Seifer at the end of Disc3.
I have Chocobo World running permanently to have Boko collect items in Chocobo World, which I later transfer back to FF8. Additionally, I use a glitch that allows me to continuously transfer the items I got in Chocobo World to FF8, in turn allowing me to duplicate and get rare items extremely fast.
