Final Fantasy XIV is officially coming to Nintendo Switch 2, and new details have just revealed a major feature that could change how the game is played on the system.
According to director Naoki Yoshida, the Switch 2 version of FFXIV will support keyboard and mouse controls, including full compatibility with the new Joy-Con 2 mouse functionality. This means players will be able to play using traditional controller inputs, or switch to mouse-style controls directly using the Joy-Con 2 hardware.
Yoshida also praised the Nintendo Switch 2 itself, highlighting its flexibility between handheld and docked play. He noted that players could use different control setups depending on the activity—such as using mouse and keyboard for high-end content on TV mode, or switching to handheld play for more relaxed gameplay like crafting and gathering.
This version of Final Fantasy XIV is currently planned for release in August, and will be a separate version tailored specifically for Nintendo Switch 2 hardware.
Overall, this marks one of the first major MMORPG experiences confirmed for the system, along with unique control options designed specifically around the new Joy-Con 2 features.
