It was a bittersweet day of reflection and celebration in downtown Memphis as the National Civil Rights Museum announced the honorees for its 35th Annual Freedom Award.

The announcement coincided with the passing of 2019 Freedom Award recipient and feminist icon Gloria Steinem, who died at age 92.
