On 2 September Local Futures hosted an inspiring evening with seven remarkable women from around the world at Schumacher College in the UK.
Here are some highlights of the evening, beginning with an introduction by Satish Kumar, founder of Schumacher College and followed by:
- Helena Norberg-Hodge - Director of Local Futures (Australia, UK),
- Camila Moreno - Climate analyst (Brazil),
- Anja Lyngbaek - Food system expert (Denmark/Mexico),
- Thais Mantovani - Environmental activist (Brazil),
- Eva Henje - Neuroscientist (Sweden),
- Darcia Narvaez - Evolutionary scientist (US) and
- Rutendo Ngara - Indigenous scientist (South Africa)
While focused on the need for localization, each presenter offered insights from their unique backgrounds and disciplines, as reflected in the titles of their talks:
• Global climate governance regime
• Rebuilding our food systems
• Big picture activism and education
• Indigenous knowledge in the modern world
• Evolved parenting for holistic wellness
• Systemic perspectives on mental health
• The great cultural turning towards localization
