On June 14, 2024, around 2:14 AM, officers responded to a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles near West South Avenue and Tuttle Parkway in Westfield, NJ. A parked Nissan Rogue had been struck, sustaining significant side and rear damage, and was pushed approximately 20 feet into a utility pole. The female driver involved was found standing in the road and appeared visibly impaired, displaying bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and difficulty maintaining balance. Despite officers' attempts to deescalate the situation, the female driver became increasingly agitated, verbally threatening officers, and eventually striking Sergeant Gill. She was subsequently arrested for aggravated assault on a police officer and operating under the influence, among other charges. The female driver was taken to the police department for processing, where medical evaluation was provided. Both vehicles involved were towed, and officers’ body-worn cameras recorded the incident for further review.
