Since reading this book, it has come to my attention that I missed some big problems with this book. Im sad/ashamed/horrified that I missed it, and theres no excuse. I am a human, and I make mistakes a LOT, but I always want to own up to those mistakes. This book contains racist and ableist things; namely, the side that is majority dark-skinned people are portrayed as savage and the side that is majority light-skinned peaceful, and the main character suffers from chronic pain but it is framed as a gift, which is something I honestly didnt even realize or know was a harmful trope so i am LEARNING A LOT. Though I want to say the basics of what is in the book, I mostly want to direct you to people who know more than me and are from the marginalized groups affected. THEY are the people you should be learning from and listening to, I want to always point you to those people rather than myself because they are the ones who have been doing a lot of the work for a long time and their voices are very, very important:
