February Open Forum (Post Connect/FOSDEM/Fedora Strategy)
This is an auto-generated summary of the FRCL call on 2026-02-11:
Brendan Conoboy opened the meeting to identify future discussion topics from the CentOS FOSD and Fedora Strategy Summit, where Scott McCarty proposed an "image mode" initiative, including a specification for converting bootc images to ISOs/disk images, and the need to focus on user and community value, suggesting a dedicated monthly roadmap session spanning Fedora, CentOS Stream, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RE). Davide Cavalca, Neal Gompa (Conan Kudo), and David Duncan discussed the need for better user-facing messaging in Fedora change proposals and a Product Requirements Document (PRD) for the additions process to align community efforts with market problems and shared missions. Jef Spaleta elaborated on a "Fedora sandbox" concept, similar to the CNCF lifecycle but with time-boxed gates and a focus on derisking technology introduction and ensuring community sustainability, which was supported by Brendan Conoboy and Scott McCarty, while Neal Gompa (Conan Kudo) expressed concern about its fit for volunteer-driven efforts, and David Duncan emphasized separating vendor from community interests. Justin Wheeler announced that Jef Spaleta will present a summary of the Fedora Strategy Summit at the Fedora Council's February 25th video meeting, and while the feature showcase and roadmap session was voted the most popular next topic, scheduling conflicts mean the next topic will be decided via the "freckle chat" (Matrix).
Jira Epic: redhat.atlassian.net/browse/FRCL-16

![Research Days 2022: Caching Heterogeneous Stuff in Heterogeneous Places
Caching is a classic optimization technique ubiquitous both within single hosts as well as in large distributed systems like CDNs, storage systems, databases, and data center networks. Classic solutions usually involve the omnipresent Least-Recently-Used (LRU) mechanism and its derivatives. These solutions are usually workload oblivious, and changing their configuration requires expert analysis of the system and the workload.
Recent advanced caching approaches that go well beyond LRU, which are gaining popularity, are self-adjusting and exhibit improved performance in various scenarios. We are harnessing some of the underlying design concepts to present novel caching frameworks that we are currently working on. These frameworks take into account request heterogeneity, and perform proactive caching decisions (a.k.a. speculative prefetching). We will be highlighting the design of algorithms and policies that are both dynamic and self-adjusting and consider their benefits in prominent storage system use cases.
Visit the Advanced Proactive Caching for Heterogeneous Storage Systems project page[1] for more information on the project.
