Fear Street, is a series of Young Adult horror novels by R.L. Stine. Published originally by Simon & Schuster, the series began in 1989 with the title The New Girl. The series quickly grew in popularity, resulting in more than fifty titles in 32 different languages and became one of the best-selling Young Adult book series in history with more than 80 million copies sold in the U.S. alone.
The books take place in a typical, normal suburban town called Shadyside. There is one street in Shadyside that is not normal—Fear Street. A long history of horrors both supernatural and realistic—dating back to Colonial times-- have been recorded on that street, and many local people will not travel there.
Because of its popularity, the series engendered two spin-off book series that also sold millions of copies: Ghosts of Fear Street and Fear Street Sagas. In recent years, the series has been revived by two publishers—St. Martin’s Press and HarperCollins (the Return to Fear Street series).
