Kent needs to hit twice out of three attacks on the boss to let Sain take the kill on Turn 4. If Kent hits twice in a row and Sain misses, Kent can take the bosskill (this can potentially cost a turn in the next map if Sain hasn't gained Strength yet, but for the purposes of simpler calculations I'm ignoring it, as is the intent of Pessimistic Mode)
However, if Kent has been hit by the boss twice and the bandit once, he will die if hit one more time. So if he fails to hit twice in a row and eats all 3 attacks, you should instead back off and heal, and go for a 5 turn.
Similarly, if Kent hits twice with two attacks, then Sain misses, but Kent is in death range due to eating too many hits so he cannot kill the boss safely, you should 5 turn.
This is because the penalty for taking one extra turn 10% of the time is less than taking 4 extra turns 7%~ of the time.
There is no way to do this map faster without glitches and this is about as reliable as it gets.
The rough calculations for the expected turncount are
90%~ chance for a 4 turn
10%~ chance for a 5 turn
The conditional mean clear turn is 4.1~
The conditional mean reset turn is 0
The reset penalty is 0
The expected turncount is 4.1
Pessimistic Mode is a hack by Doesnt on feuniverse that only allows player character stats to increase if there is a 90% chance of them having increased by the level you have just attained. It is close to 0% growths in reliability but brings stat growths into the equation to reward training units and to help compare units better than by using averages.
