This record is the first 7” I ever bought! Purchased in Santa Barbara CA back in 1997 at age 15. I had seen Fat Drunk & Stupid the year before at a backyard show in Isla Vista. I walked in to the singer/guitar player Henry asking the crowd, “How many people here are freshman?” Many drunken attendees raised their hands while gleefully jumping up and down. “This song is called Stupid Freshmen!” Henry exclaimed as the band started playing and a circle pit erupted. Being a freshman in high school at the time and realizing he was referring to college freshmen, it dawned on me that moment how incredibly out of place I was while simultaneously loving the whole experience. It was easily the wildest show I’d seen in my life at that point. Previously, I’d been going to all-ages shows at an amazing place called The Living Room (which coincidentally the first song Das Lebensraum is about). I would later meet Henry at various skate spots in the Goleta/Santa Barbara area. He’s a great dude and we’ve kept in touch over the years. Enjoy!
