If you do martial arts for a long time you'll find yourself going back to fundamentals over and over again. Here I talk about sword fighting basics and how to get from a low to an extended position in the fastest way possible. This is to make our strikes, cuts & thrusts faster by using our body most efficient. This of course applies to any weapon, but I decided to present it with a longsword and a single handed sword.

This is mainly based on body mechanics. The advice of MS 3227a "if someone intends to strike or thrust, it goes just as if a string were attached to the sword and the tip or edge were pulled to an opening of the adversary—who should be the target for the strike or thrust— resulting in taking the shortest way possible to the nearest target." helps of course, but in reality we have a body that moves in circles around joints, not in straight lines. ;)
