This is patched as of v1.2.
The online multiplayer in Fast RMX (v1.1) defaults to the novice's Subsonic speed. Despite that, there is a simple method to play the faster Hypersonic speed online while the other online racers continue to play at the slower default Subsonic speed.
1] Go to the Main Menu
2] Select "Multiplayer"
3] Select "Splitscreen"
4] Switch "League" from "Subsonic League (Novice)" to "Hypersonic League (Expert)"
5] Go back to the "Multiplayer" Menu
6] Select "Online Communication"
7] Select a Racing Machine
8] Establish an Online Multiplayer Connection
And that's all it takes. Once this is done, the game will then play all proceeding matches on Hypersonic speed until the online mode is quit.
While Hypersonic league should have been available for online multiplayer at launch, this is a serious exploit and unfair to other online racers.
