This funny invention is a prototype race car and was run by a jet engine utilizing rocket power as means of acceleration, it was very fast but a fail. The concept car was GM's Firebird I.
On January 21, 1954, American race car driver Mauri Rose settled into General Motor's Firebird XP-21 at the Desert Proving Grounds in Arizona. The Firebird XP-21, later known as Firebird 1, was the first US made gas turbine powered automobile. The vehicle was a prototype that was never mass produced and was essential a rocket on wheels. The automobile had a bullet shaped body and was powered by a Whirlfire Turbo Power gas turbine engine that could easily propel the car at speeds of over 100 MPH.
