A Dutch couple visits Rome, Italy, in 1925. A viewer gives this information: "The road, the "Via della Conciliazione", leading up to the Vatican from Castel Sant'Angelo hadn't been constructed by Mussolini yet in these movies. (It was begun in 1936.) The plaza in front of St. Peter's looked here like it probably had since the Renaissance, and not the way it looks today. ("Avenue of the Reconciliation": "Reconciliation" between the Vatican and the Italian state, the latter founded in 1871, and which dismantled the Papal States in the process, ticking off the Papacy.)"
