Different Shoes was a talented 1980s folk group from Maine. Members were Elmer Beal, Anne Dodson, Tom Judge and Pixie Lauer. All had been solo acts and/or had performed with others before forming this quartet. Most of them played several instruments, including 6- and 12-string guitar, mandolin, fiddle, mountain dulcimer, cello, pennywhistle and Bokwhistle. They sang and played songs written by themselves and others, along with traditional fare.

They released two albums, One Size Feets All (Fretless Records 171) and Tie One On (Alcazar ALC103). It’s interesting to note that when their first album was released Elmer Beal was a hay farmer and also taught anthropology at College of the Atlantic, Anne Dodson was a weaver, Tom Judge was a building contractor, volunteer fireman/EMT and Pixie Lauer ran a day care center on her farm.

This song was written by Cindy Kallet.
