In the face of the economic crisis, local communities in south Lebanon are turning to agriculture to grow their own food. As part of its ongoing support to the people of south Lebanon, UNIFIL has provided a tractor, water tank, and plowing tools to the town of Al-Halusiya. This will benefit the small farmers who have been paying high costs to private contractors to plow their land several times each year, and those who rely on the food they grow for their daily meals.
The municipality will also be able to use equipment, including the water tank and trailer, to provide essential services to the community at low cost. It will be able to transport water to those who need it during the infamous summer water shortages and support firefighters combating fires in the surrounding green areas.
Supported by UNIFIL’s donation, local farmers will see lower costs, higher profits, and increased yields. This is a benefit for the village of Al-Halusiya and all who live there.
