History for Navinchandra Somabhai Bhavsar
Nadiad is mostly famous for two things: Shree Santram Mandir and the Nadiadi Bhusu, (namkeen/savory/snack) a local and international favorite. We thank Shree Navinchandra Somabhai Bhavsar(NSB) for keeping the authentic and original Nadiadi Bhusu tradition alive and at the same time providing other snacks and sweets. Navinchandra’s father, Shree Somabhai Fakirbhai Bhavsar first opened his shop in Nadiad in 1946, prior to India’s Independence. Soon after opening the shop, people started traveling long distances to enjoy the savory snack – what was the first and original Nadiadi Bhusu.
In 1949, Somabhai and Narmadaben his wife, welcomed their son, Navinchandra Somabhai Bhavsar. That very same year, Shree Somabhai renamed his shop ‘Navinchandra Somabhai Bhavsar’, to celebrate the auspicious occasion of his son’s birth. It was with Shree Somabhai’s dedication, passion and vision that the business flourished. Both Somabhai and Narmadaben worked hand in hand to further the success of their business. Shree Somabhai was the pioneer in inventing the size “zero” (extremely thin) sev. He also created the hydraulic press machine so that the sev consumed less oil.
After Somabhai’s passing, his 2 sons, Navinchandra and Vinodchandra carried on the legacy of their dear father. The 2 brothers worked hard to maintain the quality of their existing products and simultaneously introducing various novelties. It was no surprise that all the new menu offerings were well received by all of our esteemed customers.
In the early 1980s, when India’s former Prime Minister, Late Smt. Indira Gandhi and Prince Charles visited the famous Amul Dairy in Anand, Gujarat, Amul Dairy looked to NSB to supply the packaged snacks. Navinchandra stood up to the task and successfully delivered the food packets, which were enjoyed by all. Also during the 80’s Elecon Engineering located in Vidyanagar, chose NSB to supply bulk snacks during Dushera to their employees. This is a testimony of NSB quality and consistency. The company even awarded NSB with a silver shield medal appreciating the hard work and dedication to his food products.
Navinchandra’s latest vision is “Chandra Snacks”. One can shop for a variety of about 60 types of namkeen, including the internationally famous Nadiadi Bhusu, variety of sweets, Matho(Shrikhand) and quick serve snacks/food that is made to order on the premises.
