A family caught up in a major health scandal across two states has spoken to 7.30 about their loss.

A health care complaints tribunal found surgeon Dr Liu-Ming Schmidt made a series of medical errors that contributed to the death of a man and failed to detect a cancer in another patient.

Her license was suspended for only six months.
