Turn violets into a pH indicator and explore weak acids and bases at home. If violets are not in season, purple cabbage is the old standby, available throughout the year. My camera does not distinguish very well between the starting color (purple) and the indicator color for a base (a beautiful blue). But in real life the difference is clear.
