Artwork of the last several hundred years has led us to a belief around crosses that isn't accurate with historical records. Roman crucifixion had crosses where the feet of the person was only a foot or two off the ground and was always on a main road near the city as opposed to 20 or so feet up in the air on on the top of a hill.
