A very simple and useful trick that allows you to equip any part for no material cost or perk requirement. This is how you do it:
1) Highlight the part above/below the one you want to equip.
2) Cancel out of this selection and move the cursor down/up at the same time.
3) If the prior option works, you see the new part equipped. If not, try 2) again.
4) Exit the workbench to make the temporary part equipped for real.
