Big John's Salvage is probably the most difficult location I've run across to date. I ran into 3 Legendary Super Mutant Warlords, 2 Super Mutant Masters, and an additional 2 Super Mutant Warlords that weren't legendary. Not to mention a few Mutant Hounds. Thankfully I was high enough level to handle all of it, but I'd suggest power armor if you're coming here and having difficulty. This place is no joke.
You'll find a Tales of a Junktown Jerky Vendor magazine here as well as one of the saddest finds in the game. You'll need to turn on the circuit breaker to get inside the shelter, but be ready to be greeted with a depressing site.
