Adam walked away from social media 14 years ago. That may explain at least part of how he got an undergraduate degree in biochemistry as the first step towards dental school, is now a practicing dentist and is simultaneously working on a Master's degree in Computer Information Technology.

We had a fascinating conversation about Jordan Peterson, the Biblical lectures, 'what is computation?', the theories of Stephen Wolfram and the implications of virtual reality.

"I'm the guy in the game."
Richie's plank experience and what that tells us about ourselves and our connection to reality. What behaviors are we modeling? And what is molding us?

Adam introduced me to the work of Jaron Lanier who was an early proponent and developer of virtual reality but has now suggested an alternate path forward.

Here are links to what we discussed:

A bit of the transcript to see why I feel it is so interesting.
13:17
for astrophysics that it is generally ignored. I think all our sciences are weak in this area
13:25
because we are looking in the wrong place for the origin of forms and shapes. We keep wanting the
13:32
matter to organize itself. I think that is a dead end.
13:37
To get out of this dead end two questions can be useful. The first is,
13:44
why would you, personally, want a worldview where matter organizes itself?
13:52
And I hope you can answer this for yourself, and not from some physics video you saw,
13:58
or a book that you read. The second question is, in your personal experience,
14:05
in your life, what useful functions or procedures have you personally seen come about
14:14
spontaneously, with no effort? When your purpose changes, your shape changes.
14:22
Purpose is causal. It makes things happen. A more useful and meaningful
14:30
cosmology would include that. It is my hope that I have helped convey some of that message.
