Just because summertime high temps are over doesn't mean your plants don’t need hydration!
Fall and winter in Colorado bring dry air, low precipitation, and unpredictable temperatures, which can stress your plants.
To help, Larimer County CSU Extension horticulture expert Alison O'Connor shared her suggestions:
💧 Aim to water once per month on a warm fall or winter day.
⏰ Water as early as possible in the morning to allow the water to soak in before it gets cold at night.
✅ Water to the point where no runoff occurs.
❄️ If there is snow or ice on the ground, refrain from watering.
⌚ If you don't have time to water your entire landscape, focus on:
🌲 Evergreens, which lose water from their needles year-round.
👶 Newly planted trees and shrubs, which are more sensitive to winter drought.
