Assistant Professor, Global and International Studies | Ph.D., The New School for Social Research
Christopher Harris, global and international studies assistant professor, studies Black political thought, Black culture, Black aesthetics, and Black social movements. His work aims to understand the political lives, thought, and cultures of the Black diaspora and the underlying social forces that shape them.
His forthcoming book, To Build a Black Future: Blackness and Social Movement in the Time of #BlackLivesMatter, which draws from his award-winning doctoral thesis, narrates and theorizes the ideas, practices, and culture of the Black Lives Matter movement, putting them in historical context with the larger Black freedom struggle in the U.S. and globally.
Harris earned his Ph.D. in politics and historical studies from The New School for Social Research. For the past two-years, he’s been a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of African American Studies at Northwestern University. He’s looking forward to joining a dynamic, young, vibrant department that’s heavily invested in the same social and political causes he’s passionate about.
