A New York man, Isaac Lapidus, is facing charges after allegedly running a multi-million-dollar scheme selling fake Nintendo products.
For over 7 years, Lapidus allegedly sold more than 200,000 counterfeit Nintendo Switch docks, 10,000 adapters, and over 15,000 Pokémon Go accessories, totaling over $2 million in sales.
Third-party accessories are commonplace on Amazon, but instead of labelling them as knockoffs, he was blatantly marketing them as official Nintendo products.
For a while, this let him sell items at a premium to people who thought they were getting the real deal.
However, this all came back to bite him after the sheer number of scathing reviews and refunds from upset buyers had finally caught the attention of Amazon, which flagged the issue with Nintendo to inspect the returns, which, to no one’s surprise, were all fake.
This led to a full-on investigation in September 2025, and the district attorney granted a warrant for a full-on police raid on the Lapidus’ warehouse, where they found boxes upon boxes of fake products.
The counterfeit goods reportedly included incorrect serial numbers, invalid product codes, and even misspelled Japanese characters.
For someone who is running such a large-scale scam operation and making money in the millions, you would expect they would take more care with the bare minimum, like getting the language correct.
