What does it look like to follow God’s calling, raise a family, build a ministry, and serve your community while living in the heart of Jerusalem during war?
On this powerful episode of Come Home with Jen Mallan, filmed in Jerusalem, Jen sits down with Callie Mitchell, wife, mother of four, Bible teacher, baseball leader, and the Jerusalem Regional Director for the Israel Association of Baseball.
Callie is the founder and leader of Jerusalem Lions Baseball, a nonprofit ministry using the game she grew up loving as a platform to serve Israeli families, build relationships, love her neighbors, and share the light of Yeshua.
Baseball runs deep in Callie’s family. Her father has spent more than 50 years in Major League Baseball, and four generations of her family have been involved in the sport. Today, Callie believes God may have been preparing her family through decades of baseball for the assignment He has given her in Israel.
But Callie’s story is also one of tremendous perseverance. She shares about surviving a rare disease called Cushing’s disease, undergoing two surgeries for a pituitary tumor, and now walking in remission while giving God the glory.
From Jerusalem, Callie and Jen also have an honest conversation about what daily life looks like during war—sirens, bomb shelters, interrupted sleep, children being home from school, canceled plans, emotional exhaustion, and the constant need to stay close to the Lord.
Callie shares how the Jerusalem Lions have continued practicing when possible, giving children a place to see their friends, play baseball, and experience a sense of normalcy in the middle of extraordinary circumstances.
She also challenges believers around the world to remember that when we pray for Israel, we are praying for real people—mothers, fathers, children, families, and communities walking through these events every day.
Through it all, Callie continues pursuing a God-sized dream: a permanent baseball field and training facility in Jerusalem where the Jerusalem Lions can continue growing and impacting future generations.
