David Macaulay, a lecturer at Dartmouth Engineering, also happens to be the author and illustrator of The Way Things Work, a celebrated visual guide to everything from levers to cars.
Macaulay, the winner of both the Caldecott Medal and a MacArthur Fellowship, says he uses his drawing skills to help tell a story, which certainly applies as he teaches engineering students.
"It's all about stimulating curiosity," he says.
