In 2010, Sam was involved in an electrical accident while working as a power lineman in Colorado. In a split second, nearly 15,000 volts of electricity surged through his body when a scrap of cut wire that he was holding came in contact with a live wire. Sam arrived at the University of Colorado’s burn center and within a few days he was having both of his hands amputated to prevent the spread of infection to the rest of his body.
