Fable just dropped over 16 MINUTES of brand-new combat gameplay at Gamescom 2026, giving us our best look yet at how melee weapons, ranged attacks, magic, parries, dodges, executions, cooldowns, and exploration will actually feel when the game launches in 2027. This new showcase follows our Hero and Humphrey through Wraithmarsh and an abandoned mine as they battle waves of Hollow Folk using a massive hammer, ranged attacks, freezing magic, quick parries, finishers, and abilities that can be swapped between almost instantly during combat. We also get a better look at Fable’s cooldown system, which appears to encourage players to constantly mix melee, ranged, and magic instead of relying on one attack, before the demo leads into a larger Lantern Keeper encounter with additional enemies continuously spawning around the battlefield. Even more impressive, this footage was captured from a work-in-progress PC build running at MEDIUM graphics settings, yet the fog, lighting, reflections, environments, animations, and overall presentation already look noticeably improved from earlier builds. There are still a few animations that could use some polish, and the inconsistent lip-sync remains my biggest concern, but the actual combat looks faster, smoother, and way more satisfying than I expected. With Fable currently scheduled for 2027, this might be our strongest look yet at Playground Games’ vision for bringing the series back. What do you think about the new Fable combat gameplay?
