Led by the Outlook Orchestra in partnership with Fabio & Grooverider, the film traces the journey from an iconic performance at the Royal Albert Hall to a landmark moment at Glastonbury 2025

Bringing together orchestral musicians, electronic music pioneers Fabio & Grooverider and twelve emerging creatives from underrepresented backgrounds across the UK, the project offered participants hands-on experience inside high-level performance and production environments - from rehearsal rooms to one of the most iconic music festival stages.

The Outlook Youth Orchestra project was created in response to long-standing diversity issues across both orchestral and electronic music. According to Black Lives in Music research (2023), less than 2% of musicians in UK orchestras come from ethnic minority backgrounds, a figure that has remained low for decades. While electronic music has often been more culturally diverse at grassroots level, access to professional mentorship, paid work opportunities and major music institutions remains uneven.

Recruitment for the programme was carried out in close collaboration with partner organisations and a wider network of music schools, colleges and charities. These organisations play a vital role in supporting the next generation of talent and were instrumental in helping the project reach young musicians and emerging cultural workers from minoritised and working-class backgrounds who would genuinely benefit from the opportunity.

The video follows the cohort through rehearsals, mentoring sessions and moments of personal development, before culminating in their appearance at Glastonbury Festival in June 2025. Alongside performance footage, the film centres the voices of the mentees themselves - reflecting on challenges, creative growth and what it means to see people like themselves represented on stages.

Led by Musical Director Tommy Evans, The Outlook Orchestra has long been recognised for its work bridging orchestral music with contemporary electronic culture. Fabio & Grooverider’s involvement - pioneers who helped shape jungle and drum & bass music - grounds the project in a shared history of innovation.

The Outlook Youth Orchestra project aims to engage and inspire emerging musicians, music makers and cultural workers, while contributing to wider conversations around equity, representation and opportunity in music - shining a light on, and actively addressing, diversity issues within UK music.
