This is F1 Super Lap, running on Sega System 32 arcade hardware and developed by Sega AM2, technically released in August 1993 even though the title screen shows 1992 since that was the development year. This was Sega's official FIA and FOCA licensed follow up to F1 Exhaust Note, swapping out the original's fictional teams for real 1992 Formula One liveries, sponsors like Shell and Hitachi, and actual driver names. The new cockpit view really sold the speed, and Sega added an Overtake Button that gave you a limited turbo boost specifically for passing rival cars, though you had to manage it carefully since running it dry meant waiting the rest of the race to use it again. Critics and fans still praise the scaling road technology in this one, since it gave F1 Super Lap one of the strongest senses of speed out of any System 32 racer at the time. Sadly this game and its predecessor never got an official home console port, so if you never stood in front of one of these cabinets, you basically never got to experience it firsthand. Did you ever get to play this one in an arcade back in the day?
