Our kids are 1 year old and 3 years old, so they very much need us non-stop. We both work - my husband is a pilot, he works mad shifts, and I work literally ANY time he's not working (and sometimes while one or both children are asleep). Living like this for the past few years, it left me very run down, prone to anxiety and stress...when we're not DOING something I've found it hard to relax my body and my mind. It's funny, one chaotic day - the algorithm Gods started to serve me up lots of 'soft life' content and all of this content has really, truly snapped me out of my spiral! This is why I LOVE SOCIAL MEDIA sometimes! I used to be much better at mindfulness and enjoying the little things in life, even when everything is messy, even when the to-do list was endless, and all this content has been the reminder that I needed! It's helped me to re-connect with what matters to me, and my mindset has shifted so much. It's really easy to become glass half empty when you're in a challenging life stage and early motherhood has been the most challenging life stage for me by far (even though it's also been the most rewarding). This mindset shift, it led to really important conversations with my therapist that have genuinely been life-changing. I'm really looking forward to moving out of this chaotic stage of life and into my soft life era! And I REALLY hope this (rather experimental lol ) content reaches some of you and pulls you out of your own spirals. beautiful room refresh in 24 hours! ✨ #roommakeover #shorts Melanie Murphy 2023-07-09 | A room refresh for summer!✨ You might recall that we used Little Greene paint for our living room transformation (Sage Green) and in my home office renovation (Goblin) and we were genuinely delighted with the quality, pigment and durability of their paints! We painted our conservatory using their beautiful neutral ‘Bath Stone’, a goldish yellow, with their ‘White Lead’ on the skirting boards which is an aged, creamy white 👌🏻If you’re looking for child-safe, environmentally-friendly, virtually odourless paints that resist wear and tear, look no further than Little Greene! They have such an extensive shade range, too! HOW BEAUTIFUL is this colour with the original stone chimney through the glass!? AHH 💚 Our conservatory had to be treated for mould damage after being used as a storage room throughout last winter when a lot of messy renovation work was happening on our bungalow. Ever since, the room has been crying out for a spruce up. We’re far from being done with this room because it needs a roof conversion, mainly so that the room is cooler in summer and warmer in winter but also for privacy, as our neighbours are building a tall house right next door! We’re currently saving up for that. If you want to refresh a room while you wait to get the bigger jobs done, all you need is:🖌 Good paint🖼 Art 🪴 A few plants (we prefer real plants but fake will do!)💡 A new light source (we added an old lamp that was left for us by the original owners of our bungalow!)The piano is a family antique and don’t worry instrument lovers, it’s not going to live in the conservatory permanently! However, before we send it off for FOUR LONG MONTHS to be completely restored, we’re giving it a bit of time to dry out … it had been chillin’ in an old stone shed and the damp got in. She will be going into our living room when she’s been fixed up. POSITIVE BIRTH VLOG ... fast labour & natural hospital delivery of a BIG baby! Melanie Murphy 2023-02-06 | My second birth vlog is here! A January 2023 baby! And it's a very positive labour and delivery story ... I had my (near 10lb!) daughter in Ireland's/the world's oldest maternity hospital, The Rotunda, with the most incredible midwife. I got to give birth on all fours listening to music and without an epidural or any other interventions! The dream! Actual labour was only six hours long from onset to birth. ALWAYS wanted to experience a natural labour and delivery like this at least once, and it really was the experience of a lifetime ... has made me feel incredibly strong and powerful. I feel incredibly grateful to have had this experience after my first birth ending in a pretty traumatic way. My husband Thomas captured some wonderful footage from this birth that I'll hold dear for the rest of my life! Absolutely delighted to be able to share that with you guys (as well as some labour footage), I watched SO many birth vlogs in preparation for both of my births and it's so cool to get to add to the amazing library of stories here on YouTube! Watching and reading other people's stories, especially positive ones, REALLY helps you to get in the right frame of mind when you're building up to having a baby! As so many people leave out the details when talking about this stuff in real life. That's what I love about YouTube. You can be completely raw and unfiltered. There can be so much about pregnancy TO hate … constantly worrying that it might not stick, feeling completely fatigued and uncomfortable and ILL and incapable and unsexy … the insomnia, the heartburn, the painful shites, the cravings for things you can’t even eat (like firelighters 😂), the pelvic pain, the health anxiety, the fear about how your birth might go … I could go on, but I won’t. Because as much as I loathed being pregnant while trying to look after a toddler and trying to work and trying to renovate a bloody house I was also SO grateful through every second of it because I knew what was waiting for me on the other side, if I was lucky enough to make it through the tunnel. My last pregnancy was a breeze compared to this one but a challenging pregnancy has proven to me that how you feel about (and during) your pregnancy doesn’t impact your relationship with your child whatsoever! As soon as it’s done it’s DONE and you get to reap the rewards (newborn cuddles) ✨❤️ If the internet is making you feel bad about NOT enjoying pregnancy, please remember that people typically just share highlights … ESPECIALLY on their Instagram grids. Even during my last pregnancy (which was pretty smooth sailing in that I didn’t experience any depression and I felt *overall* - great during it) there were of course harder times, which I went into on YouTube.
