In this sixty-minute program, which was presented live on Zoom on October 27, 2020, hear from Andrea Pinkney, curator of Picture the Dream: The Story of the Civil Rights Movement through Children’s Books; illustrator Brian Pinkney; and Pearl Cleage, playwright of Sit-In. Picture the Dream is an exhibition that focuses on more than forty children’s book illustrations from books that look at the civil rights movement and how the movement has continued today. Sit-In, by Pearl Cleage and offered by the Alliance Theatre, is an animated film inspired by the book Sit-In: How Four Friends Stood Up by Sitting Down, written by Andrea Pinkney and illustrated by Brian Pinkney. The panelists talk about their work and their inspirations behind these projects and answer student questions submitted in advance of the program.
