This video demonstrates the technical implementation of the Extended Trip Planner (XTP) concept developed by VTT.
XTP extends traditional route planning by enriching navigation with location-aware visual guidance, such as photos and other media, alongside the map-based route view. The demonstration shows how additional guidance content is linked to specific route segments and geolocations, retrieved via APIs, and dynamically presented to the user during trip planning and navigation. The solution is designed to improve orientation, reduce uncertainty, and support complex or challenging environments where conventional map-based navigation is not sufficient. The architecture builds on an existing Digitransit-based route planner and introduces a new module to integrate enriched guidance content.
