A walk around the upper decks of the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. The decks have more or less been unchanged throughout the history of the ship. The lifeboats used to have a catwalk beside them that was taken out during the Long Beach conversion to open up the deck. Only one staircase remains of this catwalk system, and is used for the entrance to Sir Winston's restaurant. Of her 25 lifeboats, only 17 are original. When she came to Long Beach, she had 3 fiberglass lifeboats off of the SS Sylvania, and two others were actually pontoons to allow her to dock in South American ports during her Last Great Cruise. The lifeboats later shifted around during her conversion, but as it stands now lifeboats # 4, 7, 16, 19, and 23 are not the original ones. What about the two missing on the aft port side? During the 1980's they used to have "lifeboat drills" where a staff member would demonstrate the launching of the lifeboats. One day the cables snapped and the lifeboat broke upon impact with the water. They no longer hold lifeboat drills. The second one went missing in the 90's when Disney owned the ship and had the idea of replacing all the lifeboats with replicas, so they took one off to take measurements and it was never seen again.
