Ghost towns like Candelaria often have large graveyards. I spent part of an afternoon exploring what’s left of the cemetery at Candelaria. This was one of the largest cemeteries I’ve encountered. At one point, the population of Candelaria reached about 2500 people, so it makes sense that the graveyard is large. Most of the graves were unmarked rock mounds, but I did find a few tombstones with legible engravings.
