SONiC, a rapidly growing network operating system, has gained widespread support from a diverse global community within the networking industry, encompassing merchant silicon, switch platforms, adoption, and system/device integration. While EVPN-VxLAN technology has been established for quite some time, its incorporation into SONiC marks a significant advancement. This presentation examines the architectural and implementation details of SONiC's support for EVPN-VxLAN, highlighting the key challenges encountered during the process.
Patrice Brissette: Patrice is the Lead Architect of EVPN & Network Fabric Technologies at Cisco Systems, with a primary focus on the Web portfolio. He has also expanded his expertise into the architecture and development of SONiC, with a strong emphasis on AI/ML and data center use cases. In addition, he serves as Chair of the SONiC Routing Workgroup. With over 25 years of R&D experience in the telecommunications industry, Patrice has held diverse roles including ASIC designer, micro-coder, and software engineer. He currently leads architectural initiatives and collaborates with hyperscale customers and cross-functional teams to drive the development of strategic networking solutions. A regular contributor to the IETF and other standards organizations, Patrice brings a depth of technical insight and a strong commitment to advancing the state of the industry through both innovation and standardization.
