Before the University of Connecticut, there was a previous school that was built, Mansfield Training School. This school was 350 acres and was purposely made to treat people with mental disorders. Aside from the school, there were buildings that housed residents who have been suffering from mental illnesses. With just under 2,000 patients, and about 50 buildings surrounding the area. Looking back at some of my previous videos, i cover psychiatric centers, sanatoriums, mental hospitals, and it's crazy to think... this is really what people believed in. This was believed heavily, which resulted in MANY patients being sent to these wards. Overcrowding, poor conditions, little to no care, heavily relied on drugs... And of course, as we get closer to a "Better World", they started to close these facilities down, fast! In 1993, Mansfield Training School closed it's doors, and these patients were sent to other psychiatric centers to be treated. Mansfield may have closed their doors but, some of those buildings became part of UConn, which we all know. These buildings are now UConn's Depot Campus. A little bit of history above, but this place I explored in the video, is kind of hidden, and used to this day. I've seen a few pictures of this auditorium, but not many...
Enjoy!
