Lake of the Woods is a truly remarkable body of water. More than 70 miles long and over 70 miles wide, it covers parts of Minnesota along with the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. Over 14,500 islands contribute to a remarkable 65,000 miles of shoreline, greater than that of Lake Superior. It's the sixth largest freshwater lake located at least partially in the United States, after only the five Great Lakes, and the 35th largest lake in the world. A popular fishing destination, it's home to walleye, northern pike, perch, crappie, panfish, smallmouth and largemouth bass, lake trout, lake sturgeon, and muskie.
In this episode of Grand Adventure we've set up camp on the Ontario side of the lake in Kenora, where 15,000 residents make this the largest city situated on Lake of the Woods on either side of the border. Welcome to Grand Adventure, a YouTube channel that focuses on RV-centric outdoor activities including not only of course camping, but also mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, skiing and more, always filmed in stunning 4K.
We're based in Salt Lake City, Utah during the winter months, and invite you to come along as we travel all around North America. My wife Patricia and I, and dog Zoe are avid boondockers, so while you'll occasionally find us in RV parks or even dry campgrounds, we're usually camped in some of the most remote and beautiful spots that you could ever pull a travel trailer into. We've now transitioned from "long-timing" for six months a year, to living and traveling in our RV full-time.
