At about 4.3 square miles in size, Kelleys Island lies in the western basin of Lake Erie, off the mainland Ohio coast in Ottawa County. The island is composed primarily of fossil-bearing limestone bedrock and features some of the best examples of glacial grooves—a large tract of bedrock that was scoured and carved by glaciers during the most recent Ice Age.
