Explorers Retreat at Gulliver’s Kingdom - Our WORST Theme Park Hotel Stay Ever!
We stayed at Explorers Retreat Hotel at @GulliversOfficial Gulliver's Kingdom and it was one of the WORST theme park hotel experiences we’ve ever had!
As a family who travels weekly creating theme park and attraction content, we’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels across the UK and beyond — and this one was shockingly poor value for money.
For £160 per night (room‑only), we expected a clean, comfortable room and a reasonable night’s sleep. Instead, we had:
- A room that smelled strongly of damp and musty toilet odour
- Dirty room, dusty surfaces, and a visibly rusting shipping‑container exterior
- An uncomfortable double bed with loud, protruding springs
- A children’s sleeping area that was basically a sauna‑like cupboard
- A TV that constantly lost signal
- A balcony park view blocked by a roof and fake grass
- Rusting outdoor furniture
- No direct park access despite a service gate right opposite the rooms
- A steep, pavement‑less hill to reach the park
- Extremely loud noise until late evening - children running, screaming, banging on doors, rattling handles, and playing knock‑a‑door‑run
- Paper‑thin walls and bright patio lights that stay on all night
- Poor staff presence / attitude to manage guest behaviour
- A completely sleepless night for our family
We left exhausted, disappointed, and genuinely shocked by the contrast between our experience and the positive reviews online!
And worse still, we have sent a complaint to Gullivers and they have NOT responded!
In this video we give you a tour of the hotel room and facilities but whilst we may have just had a particularly bad or unlucky visit, we personally do not recommend Explorers Retreat.
