The West Bank has long seen conflict between Israel and Palestinians, but since 2023 violence has escalated and the number of Israeli settlements, which are illegal under international law, has soared. Why has the violence recently become so much worse? What are the motivations behind it? And has settlement building gone so far that a full Israeli takeover of the West Bank now inevitable?
