Nie Yong, a researcher at the Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment under the Chinese Academy of Sciences, told Media Unlocked that the China-Nepal #mudslide was part of a disaster chain triggered by an ice avalanche. Its source was definitely located in #Nepal, and the disaster went on to have a major impact on #China.

The ice avalanche then triggered rockfalls, generating a large amount of heat and eventually leading to flash floods and mudslides.

As the mudslide rapidly moved downstream, it soon reached China's Gyirong Port. It then continued downstream, crossing back into Nepal and affecting an area stretching at least dozens of kilometers. #MediaUnlocked
