A small test, late to the party of course, as many of you will have seen jars and vases made from this combination materials on my page by now. This was the initial test though, a tiny angular cup, made instead of a test tile and sometimes you’ve got to see how the glaze will react on a vessel as compared to a tile. I’ve learnt this the hard way, observing what I think is a beautiful glaze on a test tile, only for it to feel flat and dead when applied on a much larger vessel.
This crimson glaze here isn’t absolutely right either and whilst this test was passable, it did inform me that my red glaze needs to be applied more thickly in the future, (if it’s dipped on in too thin of a wash the coarse texture of the stoneware shows through, making the glaze appear as if it’s slightly bumpy).
I’m moving on from this red now for a while to test out a new black clay body and glaze combination, simple, I know, but with that out the way I’ll be on the lookout for a similar clay/surface but in white. It’s about time I embraced my black and white pottery period.
