My newest passion project is complete!
This level just started as a layout as I found the end of this song to be perfect for a GD level. (Thanks Wlosi for that) Then as always one particle background started a chain reaction and here we are. 3 months of work to making honestly my best level/anything I’ve worked on ever. The ideas just kept on coming thanks to lack of creators block and my twitch chat for some amazing suggestions.
Gameplay: I made the drop in about 3 days and then finished the rest in one day after decorating the whole drop. Weird way to build it but it worked out amazingly. I tried to focus on the movement of the gameplay to match the song, while utilising the lyrics as music sync for the gameplay. I also made it so that each part has a gameplay motif that syncs to a certain sound that occurs. Originally the gameplay was very unbalanced but due to some nerfs that were suggested by playtesters (Plasma64 mainly), it ended up being really balanced.
Decoration: The drop section actually shocked me how easy it was for ideas. I knew what I wanted to do from the start with an emphasis on the black elements so that the bright sections pop out really well. Only trouble was making sure that the colours don’t completely flashbang players, average me level moment. Other parts focused on the same thing, like the RGB blocks in the predrop being a focal point. The only part that differs is the end part of the drop, as the whole motif is flipped. Instead of the colour popping out it is instead the black and yellow text which I merged with the block design. Speaking of which I’m really happy with how I was able to merge the lyrics into the level. Adding the lyrics to the level just at gave it identity and something I could focus on enhancing. The font I made myself and am really happy with it even if it took the longest amount of time in the level to do. The font really helped a lot tho as I used to J’s and the R’s as some overlay decoration and transitions through out the level. The final step of this level was the area triggers, and oh boy did I abuse them. 25 triggers in total. Adding those made the level so much more alive which I’m really happy with. LDM is literally just everything that is affected by area triggers and particle triggers lol.
Thanks to;
My Twitch chat - Everyone in that chat was so helpful in making this level, and made the whole experience way more fun.
wlosi - For showing me this amazing album, and giving advice on decoration when he was on once every 2 months
The Square - Australia meetup gang, the one time I had creator block I asked these guys and they just reinforced my original idea, if it wasn't for them this level may have never been released.
plasma64 - The most underrated and under appreciated person in all of GD, we talked almost everyday about stuff relating to this level or GD in general. Please check him out he was also the first victor of the level, and made this level as fun as it can be with the best playtesting I have ever seen.
