The Tugboat Roundup is an annual gathering of tugboats and other vessels including working tugs, historic tugs, mini-tugs, and barges. The festival features a tug parade, vendors, live music, kids’ activities, tours of docked boats, boat rides, Tug Talks, demonstrations and fireworks at the Hurst Harbor Center in Waterford, NY.
Waterford sits at the confluence of the Hudson and Mohawk Rivers and is the gateway to the Erie and Champlain Canals. When the NYS Barge Canal opened in 1917, five large locks on the Waterford side of the canal replaced the original sixteen locks that had brought the old canal through Cohoes, navigating around the Cohoes Falls. The Waterford Flight of Locks spans the greatest height in the shortest distance of any set of locks in the world.
