Life isn’t perfect anywhere and no country is utopia. Paying attention to your mental health can be difficult whatever your situation, but for internationals in Denmark there can be an extra layer of hardship. That’s because there’s an expectation that you should have nothing to complain about.
“How could you possibly struggle in a country like Denmark?”
“Aren’t the Danish among the world’s happiest people"
"I’d have no problem living there!”
You almost have a layer of guilt when you acknowledge stress, anxiety, or depression that sometimes comes with living abroad. Expat life isn’t for everyone and it comes with a whole host of new challenges for the entire family. We were so lucky to have a licensed therapist in the studio to help us sort through the emotional and mental health struggles that are common for expats and immigrants in Denmark.
This episode is deep and personal, but overall positive and still lighthearted in places.
