The chemists have been debating exosomes in skincare.
Exosomes are naturally found in the body, and most of the exciting research comes from human-cell origin studies. But in cosmetics, what we’re seeing is mostly plant-derived ingredients 🌿
The issue is that plant “exosomes” being marketed today are often just repurposed plant extracts or encapsulated plant material not the same thing as the biological exosomes studied in research.
So before the FOMO kicks in on a mystery exosome product remember, unless it’s been specifically tested for skin benefits, the science is still unclear.
The chemists are currently testing newer encapsulated systems in the lab, and there are more promising options than plant exosomes right now.
Food for thought on the hype train.
